Our first We Love Portales Weekend was such a blessing to the community that several churches have decided to do it again this year. What is We Love Portales Weekend all about? Simple. We engage in servant projects designed to bless folks in our community with no strings attached. As God opens doors to do so, our people are trained on how to involve themselves conversations about Jesus with those who might be interested. Participating churches this summer are: First Baptist Church, Central Christian Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Floyd Baptist Church, Dora Baptist Church, University Baptist Church & Southside Church of Christ.

Below is a list and description of the various We Love Portales Weekend events:

Thursday, July 19th -

Meal, Training & Orientation: FBC Fellowship Hall - 5:30-7:30 PM

A meal will be provided at First Baptist Church & we will learn ways to engage others in conversation about Jesus. We’ll introduce everyone to team leaders.

Movie at the Park: City Park - 8:00 PM

We provide everyone with free concessions and give each child a cardboard box to use to make their “car” for their “drive-in movie” experience.

Friday, July 20th-

Donut Blessing: 9-11 AM - Walmart & Farmer’s Market

Who doesn’t like a donut? Groups will be stationed at Walmart and Farmer’s Market to give free donuts to shoppers.

Light Bulb Blessing: 9-Noon

Teams will go door to door distributing free light bulbs donated to us from Xcel energy. We have 1,000 bulbs to deliver door to door.

Lunch Blessing: 11 AM to 1 PM

We’ll give money to folks at local restaurants to help pay for their noon meal.

Bottled Water Blessing: 1-5 PM

We will distribute free, ice cold, bottles of water at the intersections of C & 1st, C & 2nd, and D &18th streets.

Dinner Blessing: 5-7 PM

We’ll give money to folks at local restaurants to help pay for their evening meal.

Saturday, July 21st -

Rec Center Fun Run - 7:30 AM

We’ll put on a “Fun Run” to raise money for our community rec center to scholarship kids.

Community Food Blessing: 8:00 AM-Noon

Free groceries will be distributed to folks in our community at Central Christian Church.

Donut Blessing: 9-11 AM

For a second day, groups will be stationed at Walmart and Farmer’s Market to give free donuts to shoppers.

Laundromat Blessing: 9 AM-Noon

We will take change to help folks pay to do their laundry at M & M and Happy Wash Laundromats.

Sweet Life Comedy Show: 4:00 PM and 7 PM

Two performances will be at the YAM Theater on Saturday, at 4 and 7. For Show One, the doors will open at 3:30 PM; dessert will be served at 4:00 PM; and the show be from 4:30-6:00 PM. For Show Two, the doors will open at 6:30 PM; dessert will be served at 7:00 PM; and the show from 7:30-9:00 PM. Scott Davis will entertain and share about Jesus. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Buy one for yourself & a friend. Volunteers are needed for set up and clean up.
